Pacific Photo Competition
As part of the COP23 Presidency’s Pacific Photo Competition, amateur and professional photographers from across the Pacific will have the chance to have their photographs displayed at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (‘COP23’) that will take place in Bonn, Germany, 6-17 November 2017.
Rules of the Contest
The COP23 Presidency Photo Competition (‘Competition’) begins July 10, 2017, and ends August 18, 2017, at 5:00 PM Fiji Time Zone. By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that he or she is 18 years old or older and that the work provided is his or her own.
Who may enter:
The Competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers over the age of 18 who are residents of one of the following: Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu or Wallis and Futuna.
What to enter:
The judges will be looking for photographs that show:
- The human and/or environmental impacts of climate change; OR
- How individuals and groups are mobilising to counter the threat posed by climate change
An entrant may submit either a new or existing photograph that has been shot by the entrant on or after January 1, 2015.
Cropped photos are eligible. However, we will not accept photos that have been digitally or otherwise enhanced. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustments or the digital equivalents, are acceptable for all categories.
For photos in which a person or people are easily recognisable, the entrant must secure a model release from the subject(s), or in the case of a minor, from the subject’s parent or legal guardian. If applicable, a copy of the release must be submitted.
Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright, are not eligible.
Photos that contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent or other objectionable or inappropriate content, as determined by the COP23 Presidency Secretariat, which is part of the Ministry of Economy of the Government of the Republic of Fiji (‘COP23 Presidency Secretariat’), are ineligible for this contest.
For each photograph submitted, please include a detailed caption that explains where the photograph is taken, what the photograph depicts, and how it relates to the impacts of and responses to climate change. Captions should be no more than 150 words long.
Please take time to write these captions in full sentences, in English, with proper grammar and spelling. The COP23 Presidency Secretariat reserves the right to make revisions and edits to the captions.
Please be sure to include your full name, age, contact details (phone and e-mail) and residential address. Please also indicate whether you are a professional or amateur photographer.
For the purposes of this contest, a professional photographer is an individual who makes 100 per cent of his or her income from photography,
If you are a professional photographer, you may also include the link to a website or social media channel that hosts a portfolio of your work.
How to enter:
Please submit photographs and requested information in an e-mail sent to email@example.com.
You may submit no more than 5 photographs per individual. In order to be displayed in our online gallery without being stretched or distorted, photographs must be at least 2,000 pixels wide and no larger than 10 MB, in either .jpeg, .jpg or .gif format.
We will not accept photographs delivered by hand or sent to us in hard copy, nor will we accept more than one entrant per e-mail address. High-quality scans of non-digital photographs are acceptable. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible.
The COP23 Presidency Secretariat reserves the right to disqualify incomplete entries and/or contestants who are unable to submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph of at least 300 dpi at 3,000 pixels on the longest side or an original photo negative, print or slide. Mobile photographs are exempt from this size requirement, but must be submitted at their highest resolution upon request.
You retain your rights to your photograph; however, by entering the contest, you grant the COP23 Presidency Secretariat a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive licence to publicly display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or later developed, for any COP23 Presidency purpose, including, but not limited to, advertising and promotion of the Presidency and its website, exhibition, and Presidency publications. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible. The COP23 Presidency Secretariat will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.
