PACIFIC HUMAN RIGHTS CONFERENCE

Theme: “Our Voices, our Communities, our Rights”

Advancing Human Rights related to Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression in the Pacific”

Nuku’alofa, the Kingdom of Tonga, 11 – 14 May 2015

The Pacific Sexual Diversity Network and the Steering Committee of the Pacific Human Rights Conference welcomes interested persons to submit an expression of interest to attend its Inaugural Pacific Human Rights Conference to be held from the 11 – 14 May 2015, in the Kingdom of Tonga.

The purpose of the Conference is to embrace wider and collective knowledge on Pacific issues such as social justice, human rights, gender and sexual justice, faith-based and religious harmony, ethics, and social and cultural values in the Pacific. It is a conference on activism and advocacy for all Gender Identity, Gender Expressions and Sexual Diversity communities in the Pacific.

The theme of the conference is “Our Voices, Our Communities, Our Rights”.

The conference is primarily for gender and sexual minorities – or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) people – who live in the Pacific small island states. Many will use terms from their own languages to describe their identity.  It will mainly involve LGBTQI activists and Human Rights defenders already active or wishing to become so, from within the region.  This is an open call for people to put in an Expression of Interest to participate at the conference.  There will be a select few international experts invited to speak at the event as well as state officials, development partners and donors invited to be observers in some sessions.

We are very excited to join in partnership with ARC International and important donors to bring together participants from across the Pacific, and globally, to support and advance LGBTQI Human Rights, and our own Pacific issues, and to strengthen the regional and global movements.

If you are selected to attend, funding assistance will be available to cover your participation costs. If people are able to make a contribution towards the conference costs, that is also very much appreciated.

Those interested in participating are requested to submit an application (using the form below).
