Logan Women called into Action

Ten women in Logan, QLD gathered at Loganholme for a consultation on the advancement of women, as part of the lead up to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women 15 year review and appraisal of the Beijing Platform for Action on Saturday 29th August, 2009.

The Beijing Platform for Action concentrates on twelve critical areas for women of which the following were discussed – women’s rights, violence against women and the environment.

In an informal and relaxed setting, each participant contributed their views and experiences on each area and suggested solutions on how these issues could be addressed on both a local and global level.

The consultation was very productive with participants from a diverse range of cultures, religions and ages expressing thier personal views on the challenges facing women today in Australia.

The views, experiences, and suggested solutions from the consultation on each topic have been sent in a report to JERA International and the National Spiritual Assembly (Baha’i) to be collated and submitted to the Beijing Platform for Action from the Australian Baha’i community.

Following the caravan, in a spirit of unity and togetherness, the participants enjoyed some social time including lunch.
