Employers of Choice for women have been put on notice !!

In an important step to raise the bar for workplace diversity, ‘a high benchmark for the private sector has been set with the Westpac Banking Corporation offering 12 months of superannuation payments on paid parental leave as of July 1st for permanent employees

The super will be paid for the 13 weeks of paid leave and 39 weeks of unpaid leave.  This is in addition to the federal government’s means tested parental leave scheme which begins 1st January 2011 that offers 18 weeks paid parental leave at the minimum weekly wage (currently $569.90).

The last bank to significantly raise the bar for working families was when the ANZ doubled their paid maternity leave package in recognising the strong business imperative to more actively support and encourage talented women to return to ANZ after their leave

Parents will now ‘watch and see’ how other financial institutions, in particular, will respond.
