The10 year Review and Appraisal of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Outcome Document of the 23rd Special Session of the General Assembly took place in the context of the 49th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York from 28 February – 11 March 2005.
The Commission focused on two thematic issues as outlined in its multi-year programme of work:
1. Review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of the special session of the General Assembly entitled “Women 2000: gender equality, development and peace for the twenty-first century”; and
2. Current challenges and forward looking strategies for the advancement and empowerment of women and girls.
As with the B+5 review, women in Australia actively participated in this review. A series of national caravans followed by a Human Rights Court of Testimony and a National Conference gathered the voices of 4,500 women across Australia to input into the National NGO Report.
- Australian Beijing +10 Report “Women Taking Action Locally and Globally”
- The Australian report fed into the Asia Pacific Report “Voices 2005 and Beyond“
The Australian and Asia Pacific Regional documents were used to lobby governments to reflect key text in the Final Outcomes Report from CSW 49th Session (Beijing +10).
