State & Territory Caravans across Australia & On-line Questionnaire: Beijing + 15
June, July, and early August, 2009

A series of workshops or caravans will be held in each State across Australia during June, July and early August, 2009.  The information which comes from these caravans will be presented in:

1. A formal report to government prior to the High Level Meeting on Beijing + 15 to be held at UN ESCAP, Bangkok in October 2009;

2. An NGO report to the Asia Pacific NGO Forum in Manilla to inform regional advocacy positions;

3. Summary advocacy papers – one on each critical area to be shared at CSW 54th Session with Australian Delegates at the United Nations in New York;

4. A workshop presentation to international delegates at CSW 54th Session at the United Nations in New York.
At the same time as the caravans are taking place, an on-line survey will also be present on this website.  The information which comes from this survey will be added to the input from the caravans and presented in:

Young Women’s Caravan 23rd May, 2009

The first Beijing + 15 Caravan took place as part of the UNIFEM Australia Young Women’s Leadership Forum. Over 120 young women participated in this event. Their views and responses will be used to inform the final report to government and to the International NGO sector. Many of the young women have committed to run caravans in their home towns, with their friends and in their workplace. Our thanks go to UNIFEM for their support of this event.

The Experts’ Meeting was organised by the Social Development Commission of the UN ESCAP in May 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting was one of the preparatory activities of the High Level Intergovernmental Meeting on the review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action

(BPFA) scheduled to take place 27th to 29th October 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand.

UN ESCAP High Level Intergovernmental Meeting on Beijing + 15, Bangkok, Thailand

27-29 October 2009.

In collaboration with the Division for the Advancement of Women of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the United Nations regional commissions will conduct a review and appraisal of progress in implementation over the five-year period from 2004 to 2009.  The process will identify achievements, gaps and challenges as well as provide an indication of areas where actions and initiatives are most urgent to further implementation. The regional commissions will utilize the responses of Member States to the questionnaire in preparing the review and appraisal of progress as part of a variety of sources of information and statistics. Additional details regarding the process are provided in the introductory sections of the questionnaire form.

The Beijing + 15 Global Women’s Forum, New York

26 & 27 February, 2010

The Beijing + 15 Global Women’s Forum will take place on February 26 & 27, 2010 immediately preceding the 54th session of the CSW in New York.

Below are some updates from the NGO Committee on the Status of Women meeting yesterday (May 19, 2009):

The 4 major goals of the Beijing + 15 Global Women’s Forum are the following:

1. To report on the current condition of women and articulate a vision of for the future f women around the world

2. To report on the gap between words and deeds regarding the implementation of the BPFA

3. To generate renewed commitment and engagement on the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action at all levels, including international, regional, national and local levels

4. To promote the critical need for action and implementation

The 2010 NGO Forum Fund was set up during the 53rd CSW session to support the activities of the Beijing + 15 Global Women’s Forum and the 15th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women. More fundraising still needs to be done. Additionally, the UN Division for the Advancement of Women and the UN Non-government Liaison Service will be requested by the NGO Committee on the Status of Women to provide travel subsidies to women from the Global South who will be attending the Beijing + 15 Global Women’s Forum.
